DOs & DONTs of Adoption!

• CERTAINTY – Search your hear, and soul if that’s what you want to do. Be sure, understand your role, what you are entering. Know its permanent! Can’t be revoked!!! 
  If you are adopting because of infertility and not being able to have a child, I advise heal first and accept God’s plan for you.
• FORMALITY – Don’t solicit a child from anyone other than licensed adoption Agencies.
  • Not even the biological mother of the child, unless its Kinship Adoption.
  • Don’t offer money to parents of a kid you are adopting. Its illegal.
• FORMAL DECLARATION – NOT ALL kids in a home are free for adoption. Don’t take any child from homes, or anywhere before they are declared free for adoption.
• PARENTAL CONSENT – A written consent in writing from parents or relatives giving out a child for adoption is mandatory.
• MEDICAL TEST – You are free to do tests on the child before placement. Know every information you need concerning health and history of the child.
• BOND WELL– If for any reason you feel you are not compatible, talk to your Agency, they will help.
• LEGAL GUARDIANS – Choose good people. They are 2nd parents to your child should you die before the child is of age.
• INHERITANCE – Not everyone who support you now is for your child. Adoptees suffer after demise of parents. Write a will, take insurance cover and put your child as the beneficiary.
• RIGHT TO KNOW – Every Adoptee has a right to know her/his story don’t hide it from them. Tell it to them early enough. Walk with them through their loss, understand them. Hear me!!!! Every Adoptee is struggling with identity, it doesn’t mean you were not good to them.
• SUPPORT FROM SPOUSE – If you are adopting as a couple, put each other on the picture. No secret, you need your spouse’s support.
