Still, I needed confirmation. I told God, If this is truly Your will, then speak to my husband too. And He did. Not long after, my husband mentioned hat he felt God tugging at his heart toward adoption. That was all the confirmation I needed. From that moment on, our hearts healed – even before we met our child.
The Journey to Our Son
We began the adoption process through Buckner Kenya, and about a year and a half later, we met our son. The moment I saw him, I knew-I was not just gaining a child; I was receiving the greatest gift of my life.
God reminded me of something profound: It is not this boy who is lucky to have me. It is me who is blessed that he has given me a home in his heart. That truth changed me. Motherhood was not about biology-it was about love, about answering God’s call, and about surrendering to a plan far greater than my own.
Faith in Every Season
Life after adoption has not been without challenges. We have faced losses-jobs, purpose, moments of uncertainty. But through it all, our son’s presence in our lives is a constant reminder that God’s plans are always good, even when they don’t look like what we imagined.
Adoption is not just about giving a child a home-it’s about saying yes to God’s will, even when it leads down an unexpected path. And when we say yes, we find that His plan is always, always beautiful.
Chosen and Loved: The Heart of Adoption
Adoption is one of the most beautiful expressions of love. It’s not about rescuing a child; iit’s about welcoming them into a family with open arms and full hearts. It’s about saying, ‘You belong. You are wanted. You are loved.”
Adoption in God’s Plan
Did you know the Bible speaks of adoption not just as something people do, but as something God Himself does? Ephesians 1:5 says, ‘He decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.” That means adoption isn’t just a good idea, it’s part of God’s heart.
When a family adopts, they’re living out this powerful truth: love isn’t just about biology. It’s about choice, commitment, and belonging.
More Than Just Giving a Home
Sometimes, people think adoption is about “saving” a child, but that’s not the heart of it.
Adoption isn’t about charity; it’s about family. It’s about saying to a child, ‘You are one of us, and nothing will change that.”
Think of the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:4-6). Jesus tells the story of a shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one missing sheep. That’s what adoption looks like: going after the one, not out of obligation but out of love.
How We Can All Be Part of the Story
James 1:27 tells us, ‘Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress.” Not everyone is called to adopt, but we are all called to care. Here are some ways to be part of the adoption journey:
- Pray for children waiting for families and for those going through the adoption process.
- Support adoptive families by being present, offering encouragement, or even helping with daily needs.
- Advocate by sharing stories, raising awareness, and speaking up for policies that support adoption and child welfare.
A Love That Lasts a Lifetime
Adoption is a lifelong commitment, one that brings joy, healing, and transformation. It’s a reminder that love isn’t limited by DNA; it’s about who we choose to walk through life with.
If you’ve ever felt a tug on your heart about adoption, take time to pray and learn more. Maybe your role is adopting, maybe it’s supporting an adoptive family, or maybe it’s simply spreading the message that every child deserves to be chosen and loved.
Because in the end, that’s what we all long for-to know we belong.
